Vana is a gloomy platformer set in an otherworldly forest between the afterlife and the living world. To convey such a mysterious yet vaguely familiar setting, I used the space recordings from NASA to form an ambience that vaguely resembles that of a forest. This ambience tries to frame the setting as familiar and comforting yet still otherworldly and strange.
This was my first major project where I was able to work as an audio designer. I learned a lot of new things from this project, including how to integrate Reaper, Wwise and Unreal into an audio workflow.
During the project there was not a lot of time to make intricate and varied music. So I focused on setting the tone and conveying the intended gameplay feeling.
You will hear this a lot in my music from video games. My strength lies in utilizing my tools and knowledge to create music that fits gameplay rather than music that takes center stage.
